Qur’ān: Reading, Recitation

“The best of you are those who learn the Qur’ān and teach it.”

– The Prophet Muḥammad (peace be upon him)

Reading (Qirā’a)

Correct and accurate reading of the Qur’ān is an imperative for every Muslim. Enrich your child with mastery of reading the Qur’ān, at Al-Nimra School. At Al-Nimra School we specialise in teaching children how to correctly and accurately read the Qur’ān.

Administered by a network of education professionals, with strong academic backgrounds, Al-Nimra School provides traditional learning in a modern environment. Qur’ān reading classes are at the very heart of what we do. Through a structured approach, we will ensure your child can confidently and correctly read the Qur’ān.

Al-Nimra School’s Qur’ān reading classes begin with the Arabic alphabet. This is followed by instruction related to long vowels (wāw, alif, yā) and short vowels (fatḥa, ḍamma, kasra). Students will then progress to reading short words, covering nouns, verbs and particles.

Introduction to reading the text of the Qur’ān commences with the short chapters (sūras), such as Al-Nās, Al-Falaq and Al-Ikhlāṣ. Once proficiency is developed, students will progress to reading longer chapters, under the close tutelage of our expert teachers.

Recitation (Tajwīd)

In its immediate literal sense, tajwīd means “to do something well” or “to improve.” In the context of recitation of the Qur’ān, tajwīd refers to recitation of the Arabic with strict adherence to the rules of correct pronunciation. In this sense, tajwīd can be said to mean “elocution.”

At Al-Nimra School, we place great importance on teaching correct pronunciation, elocution and recitation, in tandem with accurate reading. Starting with the emission points (makhārij al-ḥurūf), Al-Nimra School’s approach to tajwīd also covers the manner of articulation (ṣifāt al-ḥurūf), during initial instruction in the discipline. Topics also include hamzat al-waṣl, al-mīm wa al-nūn, al-madd.

Al-Nimra School aims to impart traditional learning on students in a modern educational environment.
